HR Projects - Foundation

At this stage, you have core HR elements in place, but approaches by the team are often manual, inconsistent, or siloed. You find that the work focus is typically on compliance and operational basics but with manual tasks and likely duplication, errors can creep in.

Typical Indicators:

  • Policies and best practice exist but may not be embedded in the day-to-day

  • Systems and technology are underused or poorly integrated

  • Data is collected but not consistently recorded or reported

  • Processes can vary across the team or across time, steps missed and errors commonplace

Unlocking the Next Level:

  • Identifying areas of risk, including gaps in process, and implementing remedial steps

  • Introducing guidance and checking procedures to improve level of compliance for critical work

  • Working with your team to make the most of their current processes and systems, whilst identifying next steps for improvement

How can I support you?

  • Provide a high level audit of your team’s HR processes and practices, identifying any areas of risk

  • Make suggestions for improvement of your processes together with the option to implement recommendations with your team

  • Assist you with evidence for an internal business case for resources to make improvements

  • Project manage a ‘data cleanse’ either as a standalone piece of work or ahead of a transfer of data to a new system

  • Utilise the functionality of your existing tech stack to supplement your processes and associated improvements

Optimising Onboarding

Delivered an improved onboarding offering to support the business’ ambitious growth targets.

By their own admission Mouchel had a disjointed and ineffective induction deemed to be not fit for purpose. Voluntary turnover was c15% so there was an emphasis on quality recruitment and employee retention. Additionally there was no budget available to make any fundamental changes, I could only make improvements to what was already available.

Introduction to Process Improvement

Worked with a small People Services team at a Housing Association to map processes for new employees, change to employee details and terms, and leaving employees.

Alongside mapping, collaborate with the team to confirm agreed ways of working, and coach team members to continue the process beyond the project.

Absence management improvements

Worked with key stakeholders in a call centre environment to implement a more accurate and consistent process for recording absence, take ownership of absence management processes and coaching of line managers to continue delivery, all of which contributed to a significant reduction in employee absence levels.

Reducing Risk

I supported Lancashire County Council to reduce risks associated with recording of employee right to work data. The issues had arisen following a software change / update and needed input on an urgent basis.

Manage HR data through an acquisition

I took an active part in the organisation’s project team to manage the integration of all shared service functions for Mouchel employees and systems, in particular for the transfer of HR, payroll and employee self service functions from using Connect (a SAP based system) to Business World.
