One of my personal and business values is “Inclusion”, not diversity, equality or even feminism, but Inclusion. So, for me, men and men’s issues are just as important as women’s. That’s issues applying to cis-gendered men and trans-gendered men. And all of us (irrespective of gender) have a part to play as Allies for each other. This is particularly pertinent when I read about some of the biggest killers of men - the scariest of which is suicide. The charity Mind have carried out research in to suicide over the years and provide some excellent resources for those who want to support men’s mental health. Additionally, this year’s International Men’s Day on 19th November has the theme “Zero Male Suicide”, an ambitious target but well worth supporting. As this is an HR newsletter, what about men at work (and I’m not referring to the 80’s Australian rock band!!)? Well that largely depends on your industry - do you need to encourage men in to your industry (care, social work, HR, etc) or do you need to include men as allies in your work to encourage more women (STEM, etc)?
