As a change from my usual newsletter format and to mark the end of the year, I have taken a look back over 2022 and picked out my own HR awards. There’s no lavish ceremony, no celebrity emcee and no actual prizes…just me and my inaugural Proactive “Pick of the HR Pops” 😊

PROACTIVE PICK OF THE HR POPS
My “awards” for the HR achievements of the year……
Starting with some positives…flexible working a day one right, end of COVID restrictions, increase in conversations around mental health, menopause and more
For me, this has to be “unprecedented”, it has been everywhere to describe everything. Need to also mention “hybrid” as a very close second!
Definitely the Brazel v Harpur Trust judgment, after all, who doesn’t love a good part time holiday entitlement calculation!!
For lasting pretty much the whole year, this has got to be the “Wagatha Christie” saga.
Although, the RMT rail dispute needs an honourable mention for this award too!
Obviously the repeal of the IR35 regulations (but only part of them) and then the retraction of the repeal….all in just over 3 weeks 🤦♀️
For me, the sacking by video message of nearly 800 P&O staff earlier in the year takes this award, closely followed by the lack of accountability for their actions.
The other notable entrant, Elon Musk, looks to be odds on for the 2023 award!
The rise in the use of data analytics in the HR space has been widely predicted for a few years now, but not yet taking place across the profession, more skills needed here….
For 2022, this has to be recruitment. From staff shortages to the great resignation and quiet quitting, plus skills shortages in some industries, good quality Recruitment professionals have been invaluable.
SPOTLIGHT ON…
…my non-work highlight of the year, the 2022 Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham. I was lucky enough to participate as both a volunteer and a spectator, at several venues. Overall, a fantastic experience and one I won’t forget in a hurry 😍
